SUPPORT THE WELLINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT K9 PROGRAM!
Why are we fundraising?
To help continue the support for the Wellington K9 Program, we are offering these custom wristbands where the profits will be donated to the exclusive use of the Wellington Police K9 Program.
The proceeds of this fundraiser will help to provide care, comfort, and nutrition which will allow us to provide missing person search capabilities, evidence retrieval, drug enforcement, safer schools, and community interaction.
Who is K9 Duke?
Let's learn a little about Wellington's Police K9, Duke Max Von Wellington which is also known as DUKE!
Duke was born about a year ago in Czechoslovakia where he was raised as a working dog. Duke was granted a passport from the Federal Republic of Germany to enter the USA and after a 10-hour flight, he arrived here in the US. Duke was then driven 9 hours along with 12 other dogs to a kennel in Wapakoneta, Ohio where Sgt. Mecklenburg met him for the first time. Duke was the second dog I tested out that day and stood out in the pack. Duke showed a great drive for play and an eagerness to interact with me. Along with his friendly disposition, there was no doubt he was the perfect dog for Wellington.
Duke and Sgt. Mecklenburg attended the K9 academy for a bit over 5 weeks and qualified on the 24th of November, 2020. They started patrol a few days later and have been together every day since. Duke is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, article recovery, and protection/ criminal apprehension. Duke’s favorite hobbies include finding stuff for Sgt. Mecklenburg, playing ball, finding people, playing ball, protecting the yard from the rabbits (who most certainly are after his toys), and of course, playing ball. Duke is about 80 lbs and a German shepherd dog, Sable (color of the coat).
